Operational Oversight
Ensuring all petroleum operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and according to good oilfield practices. This involves monitoring activities, enforcing compliance, and preventing environmental damage5555.
Technical Regulation & Enforcement
Appointing inspectors who can access sites, test equipment, take samples, issue directions for safety, and even order the cessation of unsafe operations. The Regulator can also issue directions regarding operations, recovery rates, well surveys, and data submission.
Resource Management
Overseeing petroleum discoveries, directing appraisal activities, and managing the coordinated development of petroleum pools across different licence areas to ensure maximum resource recovery. It also monitors compliance with domestic market obligations.
Data Collection
Requiring licensees to keep detailed records and submit regular reports, technical data (like cores and samples), and returns regarding their operations.
Third-Party Access
Regulating and approving arrangements for third-party access to strategic pipelines and processing facilities.
Land Access & Compensation
Facilitating land access for operations and appointing Wardens to help determine compensation for landowners impacted by petroleum activities
