PNG LNG Project

PNG LNG Project is an integrated development that includes gas production and processing facilities that extend from Hela, Southern Highlands, Western and Gulf Provinces to Port Moresby, the capital city of PNG.

ExxonMobil PNG Limited (33.2 percent Interest) is the operator of PNG LNG on behalf of its co-venture partners. Co-venture partners are; Oil Search Limited (OSL) 29 percent interest, Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited 16.8 percent interest, Santos Limited 13.5 percent interest, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration 4.7 percent interest and Mineral Resource Development Company Limited (MRDC) with 2.8 percent interest.

The LNG facilities are connected by over 700 kms of onshore and offshore pipeline and include a gas conditioning plant in Hides and a liquefaction and storage facility near Port Moresby. LNG production began in April 2014, and since then the operator has been supplying LNG to four long-term major customers in the Asia region. The customers include; 1. China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), 2. Osaka Gas Company Ltd, 3. The Tokyo Electric Power Company Inc, and 4. CPC Corporation.

In 2017, 8.3 million tonnes of LNG was produced, which was an increase of 20% from the original design specification of 6.9 million tonnes per annum (MTA). It is anticipated that the PNG LNG Project will produce an estimate of more than 11 trillion cubic feet of LNG over the life (20 plus years) of the project.
